So much for that FON rumor...
From news today:
<< KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Let other telecommunications firms spend billions filling out their product lines through mergers: Sprint (NYSE:FON - news) will focus on delivering well the services it has already developed.

That's the message Sprint Corp.'s chief executive officer William T. Esrey had in an interview Thursday.

Esrey declined -- as always -- to comment on the frequent rumors that have Kansas City-based Sprint next in line to buy or be bought by another of the industry's major players.

''I understand why other companies would be interested in Sprint, because they don't have a lot of the capabilities that most people think will be necessary to succeed in the future,'' Esrey said.

But for Sprint, he said, growth doesn't depend on acquisition.

''If I thought we needed something we didn't have, we would consider going and getting it, or even consider a merger,'' Esrey said. ''But I don't know what that is. We're very comfortable where we are.''

Regarding that last statement, what about the Broadband local loop to support ION ??

Oh well. Anyone want to fire up a new rumor. Or was that post awhile ago concerning Cable & Wireless a start?
