I would not look forward to a fight on either side. The IP war could last for years which could cause either company to lose its focus.

I think Ericsson risks a lot more. If Qualcomm can block deployment of W-CDMA during litigation, CDMA-2000 will get too much of a head start, and other manufacturers will start defecting from Ericsson.

If W-CDMA is allowed to go forward, during litigation, all participants would risk huge punitive damages if Qualcomm wins.

If W-CDMA can be deployed without Qcom IP, or uropeans somehow confiscate Qcom IP, Qcom is still far from being out of business. CDMA-2000 will be in process of being deployed in USA, Japan and probably most of Latin America. And there is nothing preventing Qcom from selling W-CDMA equipment, chipsets and handsets.
