Alstom Signs $200M Pact With Shanghai's Subway Co.

PARIS -- Anglo-French engineering company Alstom
(ALS) said Friday it has signed a letter of intent with the
Shanghai Mass Transit Pearl Line Development Co. to
supply $200 million worth of rolling stock for the
Shanghai subway.

Alstom said the deal involves the delivery of 24 six-car
sets of rolling stock to be used on a new line of the city's
subway, scheduled to start operation in 2000.

French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin and Shanghai's
Mayor Zhu Mu Yao, attended the signing ceremony,
Alstom said.
