Comments by various leaders of the women's movement point out the reality. They
will support Clinton because they are afraid of what the extreme right-wing factions
of the Republican Party would do if they obtain any advantage or momentum. They
are afraid that any gains they have made over the last x years would be seriously
compromised if Clinton left office. In other words, they may hate Clinton (or not), but
they have to support him because he supports their policies. They are not ruled by
principles, by by positions. They will support whoever supports them, regardless of
what type of person that is.

jb, what you are reading as a lack of principles, I would read as the presence of a sense of proportion. Very few women (approaching zero I would think) and very few other Americans feel what Clinton did with Lewinsky was perfectly O.K., or that lying about it publicly for 8 months was just fine. On the other hand, they do think a lot of things are more important. And tend to view the claims of enormous legal significance in the President's misdeeds with a great deal of skepticism. Now turning into clear backlash against the righteous right wing crusaders who are trying to make hay out of this scandal.

They're right. And principled. To think as they do.

Can you not feel a turn in the tide? The backlash could get big.
