MM - I wouldn't count on satellite based services killing either mobiles or WLL. It is a very good compliment to mobile, but, even so, the satellite systems are generally built to use local systems wherever possible. Just as wireline has an advantage over WLL in the densest areas, so does WLL have an advantage over satellites in the medium density areas. The advantage satellites have is in communication to the vast areas of the globe with low teledensity (i.e. very low number of people who can afford a phone line), or for the one-number-works-all-the-time crowd.

Satellites are inherently expensive because typically there are written off due to the failure of a $1.00 component. On the ground that component could be replaced, but in space the whole system is often a complete write-off.
