***OFF TOPIC***Another reason for a rate cut by the Federal Reserve, which should be positive for the general market: The bailout of the Long-Term Capital Management hedge fund. Instead of letting the hedge fund get wiped out, apparently the Federal Reserve stepped in to help banks and brokerages try to salvage the remains. Use any justification/explanation you want, but it's difficult to keep a straight face while saying the Federal Reserve is in bed with a hedge fund.

How serious (potentially) are the financial results from the Asian/Russian/Latin American problems for the US? Apparently, it's serious enough to make the Fed Reserve lower rates to try to head off any major damage to the US.

If you check the brokerage stocks, they are down over 50% in the last two months. Price is only an indicator (stock prices are not a reliable indicator of the economy or a sector's earnings), but somebody thinks we've got problems.

In theory, if the Fed Reserve drops rates, that is positive for the stock market. But in practice, it's not always easy to make money in the stock market. This hedge fund that was almost wiped out had a couple of Nobel prize winners for economics working for it.

PS: Mark, I was only kidding about the disk drive thread not being helpful. Almost all of the people posting here are sincere, honest, and helpful. Unfortunately, as I've said before, my own posts lack any hard data on the technical side of these companies.
