SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1998--Sony Electronics has begun shipping the DNW-A75 editing recorder/player, the latest in the Betacam SX(R) family of products and a crucial piece in the Betacam SX ENG system.

The VTR features frame-accurate editing of MPEG - 2 P@ML compressed video on Betacam SX tape, plus a full range of Betacam SP(R) playback capabilities.

Ideally suited for newsroom applications, the VTR features frame-accurate audio/video insert editing, pre-read editing and fast linear editing operations with familiar operating characteristics. In addition to 525/625 operation, variable playback, and dynamic tracking, the VTR features four-channel digital audio playback at full bandwidth and simple A/B roll effects with the use of two machines.

"We have seen an exceptional response to this machine since it debuted at NAB this year, especially to its video performance at low bandwidth," said Robert Ott, vice president of VTR products and marketing for Sony Electronics' Broadcasting and Professional Company.

"The versatility of our latest VTR cannot be underestimated. It was designed to be the workhorse of the Betacam SX family and is an integral part of our Betacam SX strategy. Not only does it allow full linear editing of both Betacam SX and Betacam SP, but because it's dockable to the DSR-70 DVCAM(TM) recorder/player, editors can also edit DVCAM or even DV."

The DNW-A75 VTR is gaining wide acceptance in broadcast and several other environments, as is demonstrated by the partial customer list below. These customers will be using the Betacam SX VTR in applications including electronic news gathering, post production, educational programming and television program creation.
