JB, the reason Clinton is so popular is because HE IS A CENTRIST. That may not seem so obvious now because the unmoveable bases of his support, when the tide running out worst against him, are not so centrist. The black base. The organized feminist base. And Hillary may not be such a centrist. But Bill, what with his welfare reform, brokering deals with the Repubs. that most (but not all) Demos could live with to balance the budget, his foreign policy, his trade policy. All very much centrist, especially considered as a whole. That's why I like him. Net net. On balance. He IS the one who has pointed to a new centrism in American politics. He himself and him. Doug
