A judge has the authority to disregard a jury verdict and more importantly, sets the penalty for the crime.

Something that is very rarely invoked, if ever. If judges keep over-riding juries on a regular basis, the whole jury system ceases to have any meaning.

.... a jury member who finds you not guilty based upon demonstrably false testimony on your part is guilty himself...

Two points. One, are jury members ever required to write long reports as to exactly why they found someone guilty/not-guilty? And two, if something is "demonstrably false" or "demonstrably true", then why even bother to have a jury? One person can be judge, jury, as well as the executioner! Again this undermines the very idea of a jury system.

Dipy.
