Neil, when I first started posting on the SI PRST board the Seybold report about CTP was one of the biggest issues by some. They (bears) insisted that it was a niche market and that the "real" printers of the world would never bother with such. I proclaimed that the digital revolution would sweep this industry as it has every other aspect of our lives.

Ipex kicks off to success

by Terry Ulrick
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25
The first week of Ipex has been "an enormous success", proclaims IIR, the organiser. While unwilling to quote attendance figures, IIR marketing director Julian Graves points out how busy Ipex was over its first three days last week.
"Everybody is absolutely delighted," he says. "The numbers have been extremely positive and you only have to walk round the halls to see how busy we are."
And picking up on DotPrint's message to printers, Mr Graves had this to say: "Any printer who does not make the trip to Birmingham will be missing out on something extremely special. They will do themselves a huge favour by being here."
Of course, the technology is marvellous. Digital is the word encompassing most developments for Ipex, and particularly digital workflows, with the ability to control and inform from design and prepress through to finishing and fulfilment.
But Ipex 98 sets printing's course for the Millennium. The times ahead are going to be tough, but interesting. The new technology available has to be assimilated by you and your company if UK printing is to continue to compete. It is vitally important and worth the Birmingham sore feet to experience it.
