W. Houston:

. The question of IPRs...who is telling the truth? Well, on the one hand you have leading companies with billions invested in legacy technology doing anything they can to hold on to their positions.

There is a difference between legacy technology and intellectual property.

1. That the W-CDMA proposal is an attempt to block compatibility with the IS-95 standard to the detriment of the W-CDMA standard. 2. It is an inferior(to IS-95) implementation of CDMA

I am not here to argue whether the ETSI made the correct choice in selecting W-CDMA over CDMA 2000. The superiorness, if one can really say so, is really irrelevant. Look at Apple? How about Betamax? For apple being superior to the PC, apple is just a has-been. They held onto their technology, and IP, in an arrogant way and now are scraping for whatever they can get. What about Beta? Beta was superior to the VHS b/c of stereo sound, more of a compact tape, etc. Where's Beta now?

Face it, there are 3-4 wireless carriers in the US using IS-95, namely Bell Atlantic, GTE Wireless, Sprint and Airtouch and all of South Korea uses IS-95. That is it.

The Q is negotiating for their survival and they cannot fight a war on all fronts.....
