As I understand, most folks (with the exception of Jim) are forgetting that 1929 was a BIG up year. I believe that 1929 and even 1987 are not the problem. The problems, as I see it, are 1930-32 and 1973-74 as expectations met reality. All one needs to do is look at the Big ones. When expectations exceed reality for GE, MSFT, XON and KO it can not be pretty in how it is eventually resolved. Just consider the current PE against the projected growth rate of EPS and historical average PE. That said, we have to go through a speculative blow-off.
