Bill, one major point in the explosive derivate markets is that all those paper "obligations" look very nice on a balance sheet and in so called "risk management reports".

They flourish because;

1. Are very profitable to the writers usually WS Firms and trading arms of major Banks (BT one example)

2. People who are supposed to manage risk are laizy and their bosses are too and believe computer models are real life <gggg>

It is all a cover up which works nice only if "George does not strike" so now SE Asia had it's own economical George powerfull and slow, who also hit Russia, Japan and China is on the brink. If any of those countries would had sound economic policies the financial storm would make little demage - reality is to the contrary.

Just be a "long term investor" - sorry "long term sucker"!!

BWDIK
