I was thinking of shorting ALTIF when it was much higher, and unfortunately never did.

I haven't tried to obtain shares from my broker, and don't know if they'd be obtainable.

Regarding rushing to cover when a broker gives notice of an intent to call in shares, I'm not sure that's a good idea, or a sign of an impending squeeze. I was short WDRY and hurried to cover when my broker notified me that I had three days to do so. Since then I've read that investors who wait the three days may find that the brokers will find other shares, and never carry out an involuntary call-back. WDRY has fallen about 50% since I covered, and I'm obviously sorry that I didn't try to hold on to my short position.
