>>2) New ideas to copy and sell. Otherwise, why should anyone buy Win '97? (Quick, can anyone name any core technology that originated at MSFT?) <<<

Wait a second here. Which company is the one that has to go OUTSIDE the company and BUY new ideas because there are none internally? In case you don't know, APPLE, bereft of new ideas, went out and bought some.

MSFT wouldn't miss a beat if they dumped APPLE. Yeah, they make a high margin on each sale of office because they so thoroughly dominate due to lack of competetion. The MAC business is growing, if it is at all, at far, far slower rates than Windows. They don't even mention the MAC stuff anymore in the annual report, nor do they break out revenue. This argument is no longer valid.

You are right about Justice, however. Bill wants a foundering aapl around to make it LOOK like there is competition.

A company that is worth $100b scarcely NEEDS, for ANY reason, a company that is worth only $2.5b. Get real Soup. Isn't it laughable that BG's own net worth exeeds the total market cap of aapl by at least six or seven times. My my. How times have changed. Except around here.
