What AMD try to do is very clear. They want to gain more market share. Let's say, if AMD can gain 50% sub-$1500 system market share. AMD definitely can ingore KNI. Because software company will take good care of AMD CPU based machine. They will support 3DNow to take advantage of AMD CPU.
