I'll not speak for Washington but as for Jefferson, I'll speak up. I suggest you read a biography of Jefferson, preferably several to weed out pop culture rewrites of history that sometimes pass for scholarly work on today's campuses. There is no, repeat, no evidence that Jefferson ever fathered children with Sally Hemmings. The genesis of that story was the slash and burn media of the day.(so much for the notion no other President has had to endure media "persecution" due to sexual accusations). Jefferson was a controversial figure in his day, due to his stance against the monarchists and central power, central banking advocates. Jefferson was an aristocrat who defended the rights of the common man. He despised the media of his day as he was the subject of unfounded accusations such as the one you're still touting 200 years later and another still around, that he was not a Christian. He went as far to finance his own newspaper as his only means to answer the scurrilous charges hurled at him. As to his not being a Christian, in his declining years, he read almost exclusively the Bible and ancient Greek dramatists(in Greek), having sold his personal library to the government for cash to live on. When Jefferson's wife Martha died at age 33, he promised her on her death bed he would never remarry, he never did. During his time as an Ambassador to France( 5 years after Martha's death) Jefferson fell briefly in love with an married English woman living in France, his love was unrequited and the affair was cut short leaving no evidence of any serious encounters. That incident is the extent of the evidence of Jefferson's sexual peccadillos. It is true that Alexander Hamilton was a sexual scoundrel with no regard for the bonds of marriage, his reward was a pot of lead from Aaron Burr. In case you haven't noticed, I'm sick of seeing Jefferson dragged out, undefended, by a bunch of comic book readers, who then proceed to trash his memory in defense of the undefendable, President Clinton. There is no comparison on any, and I mean any level between Thomas Jefferson, one of the greatest seers and thinkers of our history and William Jefferson(puke)Clinton, the student council president, promising Coca-Cola in the water fountains and no more tests, while peering through a peephole in the cheerleaders lockeroom.
