I walked into a local Apple store called The Computer Store recently, and there were over 30 iMacs sitting on the floor, and a number of G3 desktop units.

Hey that's where I bought my Moms iMac, right after the launch. They had a large iMac supply then also. But at the same time CompUSA was sold out and well into backorder. The Computer Store is a well established Apple only dealer and I suspect they probably got a lot more iMacs then most other places. And obviously, they don't have the exposure of CompuUSA. At least, that could be one explanation.
