Ish,

You are correct. In 1975 there probably was not a whole a bunch of white 1967 Cougar XR-7s (Lincoln-Mercury manufactured only 28,??? 1967 XR-7s)--especially in your neck of the woods. They do not handle your winters well, and the headlight covers tend to freeze shut--an obvious inconvenience.

Now had your thieves' Cougar been that horrid lime frost metallic, the police may have had an excuse for not looking very hard. <g> Sometimes it seems that every other Cougar from those early years was painted that color, and everybody I know positively hates it!

In my case, we all wondered why these professional thieves had not chopped my Cougar up for parts. The car was gone for just over two months and as time went on, every time I bought coffee I was sure it was part of the can. Strangely, not only did the thieves keep it all in one hunk, they even "improved" on it and kept it in reasonably good repair. At the time, I joked that I should have let them keep it a while longer to fix some more stuff.

It was not all that rosy, however. When I got it back, it looked as though they had driven it sideways and washed it with a Brillo pad. At the time of the theft, it had had its original paint, still in very good condition.
