>>Final question is which one is going to dominate the market,
SVCD or CVD? I called my relative in Beijing. My impression
is that it depends on the availability of diskettes. The first
shipment of CVDdiskettes is scheduled on Setp. 25 this year.

I just bought a CVD player with 7 CVD diskettes as bonus.
The picture quality is much much better than VCR or cable.
Almost all electronic shops (like Future Shop) are advertizing
DVD now, I always watch their display. As for the picture
quality, I can not tell any difference between the DVD's and
CVD's.

Sounds like a format war in the making, but can the Chinese Govt, (or any Govt for that matter) tow the line and make it work as they plan??
Seeing that they did "SO" well aginst the VCD piracy thing.... <ggg>
Catch me if you can!!!

BTW...ESPN Sun Night Football had a Divx commercial..can you believe it??? What a waste of dough!!! I explained it to my wife...she said "ok, sounds cool", then I told her "BUT you can't loan your disk to your friends", her response "that's Dumb!" Now I'm hear jammin away thinking ...."maybe this could be the VCD of the West with the help of the almighty internet Crack files???" DSS got cracked, so what would stop the black market from making a chip or jumper or a simple crack file for your Divx player??
