James --- the platforms are designed to take much more than this type of weather without major problems. Just like any building/machinery the possibilities of problems are endless. Precautions are taken depending upon the severity of the forcast ,, just as home owners do on the coast. At times they are buttoned up. There is no possibility of help coming far out in bad weather --- safe rather than sorry. Recent trends have been as the weather threat comes on the possibility of production loss equalling less crude and products in storage and the share price of the sector rises. A week or two ago there was a great story on TLC showing how the rigs are built, transported to site, and made to stay in place. It was facinating...
