Dave and others,

Dave is more than correct here. What some of you in the States, or in NZ, don't seem to grasp is that ETSI is big, yes, even bigger than Lewinsky. ETSI is not only the telecom manufacturers, its also the government bodies and telecom operators and GSM all rolled into one.

Furthermore ETSI's status is much enhanced by the fact that its one standard policy is a big success. We may have a multitude of currencies, legislations and languages but we have universal roaming throughout Europe and most of the world.

So the idea that W-CDMA is a struggle between ERICY and QCOM is complete nonsense. If or when QCOM sits at the negotiation table there will be busloads of people on the other side, starting from the entire continent's digital cellular infrastructure. Q's IPR case has to be pretty strong.
