(COMTEX) B: Motorola Improves LonWorks Control Systems with Industry' B: Motorola Improves LonWorks Control Systems with Industry's First Low-Power Neuron Chip AUSTIN, TEXAS (Sept. 28) BUSINESS WIRE -Sept. 28, 1998-- New 3-Volt Operation Consumes Less Power for LonWorks(R) Embedded Distributed Control Network Applications Motorola (NYSE:MOT) Monday unveiled the industry's first 44-pin Neuron Chip(R) operable at 3-volts. This improvement in LonWorks technology will allow for smaller packaging than previous versions, resulting in an array of new product development for manufacturers of LonWorks Applications. This new member of the MC143120 family of Neuron Chips reduces voltage operation from an original 5-volt IC neuron to the new 3-volt version, thus diminishing power consumption. The new MC143120LE2FB device is ideal for designs such as sensors, actuators, material tracking tags, security detectors and thermostats. "This new neuron IC operates on less power which offers a big advantage to design teams building LonWorks Embedded Distributed Control Network Applications," said Al Mouton, Motorola strategic manager for LonWorks Products. "Until now, our customer base has been limited to neuron ICs with much higher voltage. Now a new line of products are possible." Pricing and Availability The new MC143120LE2FB 3-volt Neuron Chip is available now in sample quantities. In 10,000 piece unit quantities, the device has a suggested resale price of $6.66 per unit. Production quantities have a 6 week lead time. Additional information on Motorola's products is available through Motorola's web site at www.motorola.com/lonworks. LonWorks technology is a standard across a broad scope of industries and is being deployed in applications such as: building control, home automation, meter reading, runway lighting, luggage tracking, motor control, train control, tollway control and hospital beds. Today over 4, 000 companies have adopted LonWorks technology and over 1,000 of those companies have introduced products.
