Dan, I know it's painful to realize, but: "12 convictions in 4 years at the federal level. That's how many times perjury has been committed in the federal justice system?"

No. That's how many times it was successfully prosecuted when a felon was stupid enough to lie and then not correct it or they're arrogant enough to think no one is smart enough to catch them. People who perjure themselves also get convicted of other things - because they have a flawed moral compass in the first place.

"What a remarkably honest country we live in." Sorry, Dan, it is an honest country. There are people of integrity, some of them are even in political office. Not everyone cheats on their spouses. Not everyone takes an oath and then lies. Not everyone pushes financial scams, either. If we abandon the idea of honesty, our economy is doomed.

As for Gates - if he lied under oath, let them investigate and bring the case. Just because he's the world's richest man doesn't make him any more immune than you believe Bill Clinton should be.

Mr. K.
