MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1998--

Independent Test Results Show Crash Defender Deluxe 2.0
is the Most Reliable Crash Protection Solution
for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT

Quarterdeck Corp. (Nasdaq:QDEK), the world's leading
provider of PC helpware solutions, Monday announced that independent
test results from the National Software Testing Laboratories (NSTL)
prove Crash Defender Deluxe 2.0 is the most reliable crash protection
utility for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT.
The NSTL tests show that Crash Defender Deluxe 2.0 fixes as much
as 73% more application crashes than the competition and is the most
effective crash prevention and protection solution available. More
detailed information on the NSTL test results will be available at
www.quarterdeck.com.
"Our research shows that the No. 1 PC problem is crashes and now
the NSTL results confirm that Crash Defender Deluxe 2.0 is the
smartest and most reliable crash prevention technology available to
protect users against crashes and screen freezes," said Gary Ulaner,
director of product management at Quarterdeck. "Crash Defender, which
takes up minimal system overhead, is the most powerful solution for
users who want to know their data is secure."
Using ten test scenarios, the NSTL results show that Crash
Defender Deluxe recovers from about 73% more application crashes than
Symantec's Norton CrashGuard Deluxe, which is also included in Norton
Utilities 3.0 and Norton System Works 1.0. The NSTL results disprove
Symantec's claim that Norton CrashGuard Deluxe provides three times
the crash protection over competing products.
The NSTL results also show that Crash Defender Deluxe recovers
from about 53% more application crashes than McAfee's Nuts & Bolts 98,
and about 44% more application crashes than CyberMedia's First Aid 98
Deluxe. NSTL evaluated each application's ability to intercept and fix
a crash on a scale from -1 to 3.

About Crash Defender Deluxe 2.0
Crashes have always been a source of headaches for PC users and
crashes take their toll in the form of lower productivity, the high
cost of re-creating lost work and increased technical support calls
and costs. Users need a reliable way to minimize the effect of crashes
as they go about their daily tasks.
As an independent, standalone application, Crash Defender Deluxe
2.0 eliminates potential conflicts and maximizes its crash detection
effectiveness. The product has been significantly enhanced to allow it
to detect and fix far more crash situations, protecting both 16-bit
and 32-bit applications.
Crash Defender Deluxe 2.0 users don't have to worry about loss of
productivity and the potential loss of valuable business and personal
data. It is the only crash protection solution for Windows 95/98 and
Windows NT designed to automatically intercept and fix crashes and
screen freezes before they cause a loss of data.
Crash Defender Deluxe provides proactive protection, monitoring
the system in the background to intercept application crashes and
screen freezes. It also lets the user stabilize applications long
enough to save valuable data and exit the application without
rebooting the system and can also reactivate applications that appear
to be frozen.
The award-winning crash protection technology was named C/NET's
Editor's Choice for Best Crash Protection. C/NET said: "the company's
first-generation, sophisticated crash protector is powerful and
reliable, and it packs all the features you really need. In the close
race between crash protectors ... (it) wins by a nose." A trialware
version of Crash Defender Deluxe 2.0 is available now for download and
trial at www.quarterdeck.com. The file is 4018K.
