Jobs creation is both direct and indirect. While multinationals are producing goods outside USA for sale in North America and Europe, important corporate function jobs remain in the US. Growth of multinationals creates, therefore, numerous indirect jobs including: Corporation Law Corporate Finance/Accounting/Control Advertising Marketing Distribution/Warehousing Transportation
Multinationals have indirectly caused creation of numerous jobs in small, start-up, companies providing services, particularly those relating to creation of computer-based tools and services. A notable example is the PC hardware and software industries.
Those hurt most were, initially, in the "rust belt." Examples include the automotive assembly workers wo lost jobs, initially, to production of automobiles overseas. More recently the "rust belt" staged a booming recovery as a) foreign car makers built US plants to assemble cars in the US, and, b) as the US economic boom boosted demand for items hard to economically produce abroad, e.g. appliances.
