Paul, I don't know why you're creating all of this fear uncertainty and doubt. The brokerage firms stated exactly why they were downgrading the stock. Back in August when the stock was at $15 they rated AMD a STRONG BUY with a short term target of $22. The stock hit $22 the other day and pulled back to around $20 until the downgrades were released today. Since the stock had met their price target, they downgraded the stock from a Strong Buy to a Buy. My hunch is that these analysts are trying to accumulate this stock at discounted prices before the October 6th earnings release. Especially since another Tier 1 PC supplier will announce K6/K6-2 based platforms in mid-October with 2 other OEMs to follow. The K6/K6-2 is already being used by Compaq, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Acer and DEC. AMD has yet to win a K6/K6-2 design at DELL, Gateway, Packard Bell and Toshiba. Rumor has it that AMD will meet their 4M CPU quota for this quarter. If 3 of these 4 suppliers announce an AMD based machine, Intel will only have one safe haven, thus allowing AMD to reach their 5.5M CPU target in the fourth quarter. When IBM announced they were using AMD a while back, the stock rose $5 in one day. What do you think will happen when three market leaders announce K6/K6-2 based machines? Profits
