I promise-last frustrated, whiny post about cars. Unless I think of another.
Two weeks ago Dan was in a parking lot and a woman backed into him. THere was a cop right there. Dan called him over; he looked at the cars said the damage wasn't that bad, no injuries, just exchange info and he walked away.
The woman couldn't find her insurance card, but swore it was with State Farm, who happens to be our insurance co. also. Dan went back to the cop, who could have cared less that this woman was without Proof of Insurance. He said just get her information.

Of course, not only can State Farm not find her anywhere in their records, but she refuses to return calls or answer her phone.
I asked the agent, Can't we go after her? She said, well, even if we got a judgment, she probably wouldn't pay.
"Excuse me---" I said, "Why am I paying your company 4000 dollars a year??? Apparently I can drive in perfect safety without any insurance at all. The cops don't care, and you can raise my rates to cover these claims. Why don't I cancel my insurance and you mail me my money back?"
"Ha-ha-ha," she said. "We'll file this on your insurance under an accident with an uninsured motorist." And I know she meant well, but then she said," The good thing about that is that you don't have a limit on the amount we pay for a rental car while yours is being fixed so you can get a nicer rental."
I said, "Great, and you can raise my rates some more? Is this supposed to make sense?"

I'm completely incensed. I'm so tired of playing by the rules and paying everyone else's way. And worse, then I'm told that I'm not a nice person because I don't want to feed and provide free medical care for everyone else in the world. That I should be willing to pay a little more in taxes to cure these ills? I already pay almost half what we make.
Does anyone know the statistic on how much of the tax burden we in the top 5% carry? I heard it on the radio but just as the announcer said it, I went under those wires that make your radio die. That's the story of my intellectual debate life though, never quite catching the pertinent, final, convincing fact.
