"I have heard that 9999 (Sept 9th 1999) in Cobol (sp) means 'stop program'. From what I have read, this will affect financial institutions more than anyone. Have you heard anything about this? If so, what will be the effect of this, or is it just a false alarm? " As a Cobol programmer for over 19 years, I can say that the above statement is false, some of the hype over Y2K is way out of control.
