You would buy sql server to get at the olap capabilities built into sql server. However, I suspect there will be a strong bias that the data warehouse will be strongly preferred by msft to be stored on the sql server engine.

You wouldn't "debundle" plato and run it elsewhere, it's part of sql server. Despite sql server being 1/10th the cost of oracle, oracle is still outselling sql server on NT and remains by far the most important enterprise database engine.

Another thing that investors miss is that HYSL is a play on the installed base on transaction processing applications, not on the growth. Analytics only get interesting after you have something to analyze!

Yes, I know that SQL server is growing faster, although I would argue that it's primarily as a transaction engine for smaller companies (see the growth of GPSI for instance) or a server engine for web apps at larger companies.

I think this is a fair assertion: Even with NT/SQL server's growth, in 5 years (Even 10) over 90% of key enterprise transaction data (for the worlds larger companies) will still reside on non-sql server database engines. That is the target for the enterprise class analytical world.

I really doubt plato will be much of an issue for hysl's enterprise class customers most of whom have standardized on oracle or db2 as their enterprise repositories.

However, I suspect that comshare specifically might be anxious to support plato since arbor is now merged with comshare's number one competitor - hyperion solutions. However the math is pretty favorable there. CSRE is a mediocre company that was getting badly beaten by HYSW in the market. Over time, HYSL loses some reduced margin indirect revenue to csre and replaces with full margin business to hyperion's customers and their installed base. probably a 100 to one opportunity improvement.

If comshare were important, arbor could have purchased them outright.
We're getting good feedback from other partners and nothing that has surprised me much. What will be interesting is to see whether HYSL can deepen exisitng relationships or add new partnerships over the next several quarters. That would be a big psychological boost.

BTW, turs, are you having response problems on SI today?
