U.S. lawmakers reject White House farm aid plan

WASHINGTON, Sept 28 (Reuters) - U.S. House and Senate negotiators rejected on
Monday an administration proposal for a record $7.5 billion in emergency aid to farmers.

The vote was taken during a session to complete the fiscal 1999 agriculture appropriations
bill. It assumes adoption of the $3.9 billion plan proposed by Republicans, who control
Congress.

Both plans offer about $2 billion in disaster relief for farmers. The bulk of the administration package would have been spent on
higher crop supports.
