Dow Jones Newswires

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- IDT Corp. (IDTC) plans to lower NetPhone2 rates on its PC-to-phone service to Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana so customers can keep in touch with friends and relatives affected by Hurricane Georges.

In a press release Monday, IDT said it will reduce calls to Puerto Rico, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana from anywhere in the world to four cents a minute from 10 cents a minute, and cut calls to the Dominican Republic to 15 cents a minute from 25 cents a minute.

The telecommunication services provider said the rates will be in effect for one month, starting immediately.
