>>If Amazon captures 40% of the $3B market that would mean roughly $1.1B in sales.

Amazon estimates that the worldwide book market is $82 billion, music $40 billion,
videos $16 billion.

Amazon estimated that as of 2Q98 the company held a 2.5% share of the US book
market.

William,

It is estimated that online book sales will amount to $2.5 to $3 billion dollars. No one is anticipating the entire book market to be sold online.

If the estimated online book market is correct and Amazon is firtunate enough to get 40%, their sales would only be $1.1 billion.

I doubt we would want to use Amazon's estimate of what percentage of books will be sold online. An independent source would likely be less biased here.
