Wrong! How do you figure B&N and Borders are growing slower than AMZN? B&N grew faster last quarter and they said a large amount of growth occured toward the tail end of the quarter - after they fielded a better site and initiated the associates program. I suspect that robust growth has helped them come to the decision to take BOOK (new symbol) public. I can't say what Borders is doing - they are much less of a factor. Forget Borders, Bertelsmann will be the toughest competitor of all. If Bertelsmann wants to gain market share all they need to do is start a price war: "why buy books from a mere retailer when you can buy them direct from the world's largest publisher? Cut out the middle-man. Join the Doubleday internet book club and buy books at 15%-30% off Amazon's price."
