Ta2O5 is likely to be used as soon as the 1 Gbit generation, with BST probably two or three generations later. So both materials are definitely 3-8 years, not 10-20. And yes, you'll see significant die shrinks--that's the only reason to use these materials.

Maybe you haven't been reading the right things? I've seen enough news about copper to keep me pretty busy lately.

Now, some of the perceived "slowdown" in copper implementation may be because the microprocessor and DSP companies are way out in front of the rest. DRAMs and most ASICs, for example, simply don't need the performance yet.
