I used to think the NY guys deserved some credit for not ripping investors/traders off wholesale the blatant way it's always been done in the Nasdaq. After having followed emc for a while I now know better. In my mind there is no great difference between the two exchanges, they will both equally rip you off if they get a chance. Maybe in the 80's the NYSE was different but now they're equally dangerous. And I also followed for a while a small stock on the NY that the "specialist" manipulated at will, easy because the volume was so low. And they play the same options manipulation games as on the Nasdaq as well. For all practical purposes I see no real difference between the exchanges, except that you might get a slightly better fill (i.e. less spread) on the NYSE. But the shenanigans are exactly the same. Just my opinion based on what I've seen.
