EDITORS/COMPUTER WRITERS ISPCON

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1998--Ascend
Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASND.O) the leading provider of wide area
network (WAN) solutions for providers and users of the Public Network,
today announced a turnkey MAX 6000 Voice over IP (VoIP) starter kit
and three other MAX 6000 data bundles for Internet Service Providers
(ISPs) at ISPcon Fall '98.
The MAX 6000 VoIP starter kit combined with Ascend's MultiVoice
Alliance Program (MAP) enables ISPs to extend and accelerate the reach
of their networks and value-added services. ISPs can quickly deploy
new VoIP services through key alliances with "Best of Class"
application providers. Ascend's VoIP alliance program includes
mainstream applications that provide both PSTN-type features and
next-generation telecommunications applications. These applications
include VoIP billing, fax, settlement and roaming, and multimedia and
unified messaging services.
"Our new MAX 6000 Voice over IP starter kit combined with service
and the MultiVoice Alliance Program should push any ISP over the edge
who is thinking about adding Voice over IP to their portfolio of
value-added services," said Michael Schoolnik, Internet marketing
manager at Ascend Communications. "These new bundled solutions offer
ISPs award-winning MAX dial-access and Voice over IP products at
aggressive prices and include special financing options or Rapid
Response Services to deploy and generate revenue quickly."
In October Ascend will be conducting an eight-city briefing tour
for service providers entitled "Getting Ready for Prime Time:
Converging Voice and Data Networks." The program is designed to help
service providers understand the emerging voice services market. The
program includes a tutorial by industry analyst Steve Taylor of
Distributed Networking Associates, a demonstration of Ascend's
Voice-over-IP solution and a case study of a service provider offering
customers Voice over IP services. To register on-line, go to
ascend.com, or call 800/632-8387 for more
information. Scheduled dates and cities for the seminar include:
