Which drive has Win95 and which one Win98? How did you install Win98?

I first started with one IDE hard drive, the master on the primary channel, and did a new installation of Window 98. The BIOS labelled this drive as drive C. I then installed my second IDE hard drive as a slave on the primary channel. This hard drive contained my old Windows 95 system. The BIOS labelled this drive as drive D. I then used the BIOS to boot from drive D. Windows 95 then determined my system had changed and wanted to update itself. However, because I also changed the location of my CR-ROM during this modification to my computer Windows 95 could not find my CD-ROM and could not update itself.

Next I then used the BIOS to go back and boot from drive C. However I couldn't and got an error message saying no bootable operating system found on drive C. Next and skipping a few details I used Fdisk to make the primary partition on drive C active. At this point I was able to boot Windows 98 from drive C.

I don't know if it was Windows or the BIOS that changed the active status on my primary partition on drive C and I am not going to worry about it any more. However, I did want to mention this problem to point out the possibility that there might be more to selecting which hard drive to boot from than using the BIOS to select the boot sequence.

By the way I had to use the DOS drivers that came with my Adaptec 2920 SCSI adapter to be able to do a new installation of Windows 98.
