Where most go astray in the process is that they fully don't want to know the truth or they want to believe the truth they think is correct and never open themselves up to the real truth, God's truth!
You mean your truth????
Your method of finding the truth is abstract, inconsistent, and largely impossible to perform in a set way. That is, I can show you a person that did the exact same thing you said and is a Muslim. However, you would say they weren't truly seeking the truth or didn't have an open mind. If I found a Buddhist who did the same thing, again, you'd say they weren't truly seeking the truth. In fact, you would never say someone did it correctly unless they choose Christianity. Isn't that a fact?
Your method while it appeals to the heart does not appeal to the mind. I can tell you of atheists who have done what you suggested and "heard" or "felt" no one. But again, you'd contest they must have not had an open mind. Your objections while good intentioned have no proof to back them up. How can you know you were truly seeking with an open mind and heart?
So your method of seeking truth appeals to the heart but is not verifiable. It isn't something you can bring out and show to someone. You can't defend it if the reason you're Christian is because one day you got on your knees and thought you felt something, then I know I'm on.
