Wilson vetoed the Bowen Bill in California. This would have allowed ethanol to compete with MTBE's as an additive for gasoline in the state. The California assembly had passed the Bill 69-0, and the Senate 37-0. This is rare for legislation with overwhelming support in both houses to be vetoed. I have no idea why the Govenor would do this. The proponents of the legislation now say they will fight to get it passed next year, as Wilson will be out of office. Every other state allows ethanol to compete with MTBE's. This company need sto show some positive earnings growth. Gary Smith, CEO, has said that the first quarter would be flat, but that the rest of the year was looking quite good. He said that earnings for the year should be over 30cents a share, well over expectations. I have been long on HIPC fpr some time now. At times it has been difficult to not clear th e decks with this company, but I firmly believe that Mr. Smith is the right person at the right time. With corn prices low and crude prices rising, lets hope that the next year is a great one for HIPC. Heaven knows we have all waited for it. I apologize for being long winded but I hope this helps.
