AMD Broadens Low-Voltage Flash Memory Line; Am29LV010B is Offered at 45
Nanoseconds

BusinessWire, Monday, September 28, 1998 at 08:27

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1998--AMD today
announced the availability of two new 2.7-volt-only, high-performance
flash memories, the Am29LV010B and Am29LV040B.
These 1- and 4-Megabit devices are available in small-form factor
32-pin PLCC and TSOP packages.
"We continue to broaden our low voltage product line so we can
offer what our customers need," said Walid Maghribi, group vice
president of AMD's Memory Group. "AMD offers the industry's most
extensive line of low power flash memories, with ideal combinations of
low power, high performance and small-form factor packaging."

Applications

AMD's 32-pin, 2.7-volt-only family addresses a broad base of
portable, battery-powered applications requiring a small to moderate
amount of code storage. Applications include electronic organizers,
digital pagers, portable instrumentation and electric security
devices.
These applications require low-voltage flash devices to support
extended-life operation of alkaline and rechargeable batteries. In
addition, these parts will be used in 5.0-volt embedded systems that
are migrating to lower voltages.
Features

Standard features include:

-- Extended 2.7- to 3.6-volt Operating Range
-- Allows battery-powered systems to operate longer between
battery replacement or recharging cycles.
-- Single-power-supply operation for all read, program and
erase operations.

-- Zero-Power Operation
-- During normal operation, most portable systems have many
inactive periods. AMD's unique power management system
automatically puts the device into sleep mode during these
inactive periods, considerably reducing energy consumption
and extending battery life.

-- High Performance
-- The Am29LV010B has access times as fast as 55 nanoseconds
at full voltage range and 45 nanoseconds at regulated
voltage range. The Am29LV040B has access times as fast as
70 nanoseconds at full voltage and 55 nanoseconds at
regulated voltage range.

-- Compatibility
-- Identical to AMD's popular 5.0-volt-only Am29F010 and
Am29F040.
-- Little or no effort required to migrate to lower power
operation.

-- Advanced 0.32-Micron Flash Technology
-- Provides the smallest die sizes allowing AMD to offer
cost-competitive solutions.
-- Based on the same process technology and architecture as
AMD's other 2.7-volt-only flash products.
-- JEDEC/Industry Standard
-- Sector Architecture with Sector Protection
-- Embedded Algorithms

-- Superior reliability
-- 1,000,000 Guaranteed Program/Erase Cycle Endurance
-- 20-year data retention
