Hmmm... "object technology, middleware, and common APIs"... this could lead to single machines being replaced by multiple different type machines all linked with each handling the native routine calls ala a parallel processing set up where some intelligence handles the distribution and collective integration. Sounds like plenty of speed, all the current diversity with integration by the fastest/best-est processor.

I struggled with UCSD PASCAL on the AppleII and learned early about doggie p-code. Amazing how they keep trying to make it faster when it is always going to be much slower than native code.
