GTE unit awarded $141 mln Army contract A GTE Corp Corp subsidiary won a $141 million Army contract to provide improvements to a tactical communications equipment system for Taiwan, the U.S. Defense Department said Monday. The Communications Systems Division of GTE Government Systems in Taunton, Mass. was awarded the fixed price contract on December 20 for the Army's Improved Mobile Subscriber Equipment Tactical Communication System for Taiwan. The GTE unit will provide a hardware complement consisting of about seven nodes of equipment, initial spares, training, fielding and warranty. Most of the work will be performed in Taunton, and the remaining 10 percent in Raleigh, N.C. Work is expected to be completed by Nov 30, 2002.
