<<Tar Baby gets it.>>

I don't think that was meant to say you were a "cry baby".

I think it was a colloquial reference to Southern folklore...The fables of Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Fox.

In one such legend, Br'er Fox sets a trap for Br'er Rabbit by leaving a plastic doll covered in tar on the side of the road.

Br'er Rabbit comes across the "baby" and attempts to engage in friendly conversation. When the doll does not respond, Br'er Rabbit is incensed at the stuck up, anti-social behavior of the baby and let's it know of his dissatisfaction by giving it a shove. His paw immediately gets stuck to the tar-covered baby.

Br'er Rabbit thinks that the baby is trying to pick a fight and punches only to get his other paw stuck. This leaves him vulnerable to Br'er Fox who happens along.

Best told by Uncle Rhemus.

Zippidy-doo-day-day!
