>On my planet, Earth, we also have a continent called "Europe"; but it is doing no such thing.

you're an optimist, like most Americans aren't you?

You know who is number 2 in Germany ? Oskar Lafontaine. A staunch union guy.... Now the socialists (read communists) are the winner.

Ah, now I see where you're coming from. The SPD just won an election in Germany, so therefore all of Europe is going to hell in a handbasket.

Maybe. But I'm old enough to remember when the other Helmut (Schmidt) was chancellor, and the world did not fall apart.

No doubt Germany has some digestive upset after absorbing the DDR, and no doubt Germany is an important part of Europe. Still, I have trouble seeing Europe as a major exporter of global economic turmoil; Asia, Russia, and Latin America are way out ahead in that department.

Your side lost an election, that's all. That happens in democracies. Relax. It will change again. That also happens in democracies.

There is plenty to worry about on the global economic scene. Europe going Communist is not one of those worries.
