ed, i now understand where you are coming from - though i still know your prior statement weren't accurate as stated (maybe they were as intended).

when one spends $2 billion to start a business, one can't conveniently disregard that cost of business, can they? that is what depreciation does. it as accounting method for counting a cost of business.

even more sinister is that mu must continually spend more money to stay in business so these costs are recurring all the time. to disregard them is to make as much sense as saying, "if i didn't have to have a building, if i didn't have to pay my employees, if i didn't have to advertise, if i didn't have to buy materials, etc... then i'd report positive cash flow and earnings. now, buy my company" ;-)

totally absurd.
