I found that it has been amusing that I could read some news about AMD and Cyrix important projects/announcements a few days earlier from Taipei than here.

Here is a news report from Taipei about Cyrix to share:

The last Compaq's BIG order on FIC was Compaq's Network Computer which has Cyrix GX inside. The system performance is close to Pentium 133. It would be priced under $1,000. It is a done deal. With mass production from FIC, Compaq is to flood the market with their own NC against IBM's PowerPC NC. It would be the lowest price PC from Compaq ever.

It has black VCR outlook featuring consumer electronic device sense. It has one ISA slot (only) to meet various modem specifications in various countries (?).

As Compaq has adopted GX for their NC project, 2-3 of 5 other tier one have been in serious negotiation with Cyrix to use the GX for low cost NC.

A new chip, GXi, will be developed shortly. It would clock at 166Mhz and have software modem, USB and TI394 integrated to the chip. It would be a real "system in a chip".

Fuchi ... who loves Cyrix's innovations
