Hi Ann Corrigan; About that innocent until proven guilty...

Did you notice that O.J. spent a good bit of time in jail without being convicted of anything? He couldn't make bail, I guess.

I can vouch by personal experience that you don't have to be proven guilty in order to go to jail. The fact is that they frequently lock you up in jail before they convict you.

This is why you see people in orange jump suits on TV being led to their trial. That isn't a personal fashion statement. They are forced to wear those clothes. They were locked up before being proven guilty.

I'd like to see Clinton with his wrists manacled behind him. That is what they would do to me, if they had me down on a strong suspicion of felony perjury. Even if they were later unable to prove it, I would still see the inside of a cell. Running the president through this would be a great example of our criminal justice system in action. The rich having to suffer the same indignities as the poor. Justice is supposed to wear a blindfold, after all. (She carries a dangerous looking sword in one hand, a balance in the other. I really don't know what she is going to do with the sword, given the blindfold.)

And I wouldn't have the criminal justice system be any other way. If we required people to be guilty before locking them up, what would happen? These complicated trials take years to complete. Would you like to have all the rapists and murderers loose before their trials?
