Seems like there are many methods to short. Some short the high-flyers, looking to ride the plunge down. I feel this requires a very close watch on the stock and a strong stomach. I don't have the time to do this.

Others find really crummy companies with poor or even negative earnings accompanied with loads of debt. Other criteria would help with these companies, such as high enough volume and market cap to avoid the short squeeze or stock manipulation. To those who short these type of companies, how do you narrow down your field? What objective criteria do you use to stack the odds in your favor?
