I suppose your old Mac is on a LocalTalk network, since the iMac comes with built-in Ethernet and you wouldn't be having a problem if you were on an Ethernet network. You might want to consider upgrading your network to Ethernet, which is much faster and not very expensive to do these days. If your old Mac can't accept an Ethernet adapter or your old LocalTalk printer does not have Ehternet capability, you can still use LocalTalk and connect to your (new) Ethernet network via a LocalTalk-to-Ethernet bridge (I think that's what it's called). It's slow, but it works. That's the technique I was using when we switched over to Ethernet and still had to use an old Powerbook and a LaswerWriter NT. BTW, the bridges we used were from FOCUS (EtherLAN SC-T to connect a LocalTalk Mac to Ethernet, and EtherLAN Print to connect a LocalTalk printer to the Ethernet network).
Having said all of that, the only thing that's keeping me from buying an iMac at this time is that I would not be able to use the many SCSI devices (external drives, mostly) that we currently have. I wonder if anyone is coming out with a SCSI-to-USB adapter anytime soon.
Good luck.
